Rex and Stephanie, I am so sorry to learn of Teresa’s passing, even if it is a little late. I have many, many fond and cherished memories of the time I spent working with Teresa at Alachua General Hospital, 6 East, where Teresa was one of my Preceptors after Nursing School. We worked together from 1987 until Teresa moved to Home/Hospice Care, and after I left AGH in 1992, we met again when I became a patient of our Hospital Hematologist/Oncologist, Dr. Bruce Stechmiller, where Teresa had become his Clinical Manager. I learned a great deal from Teresa, and I especially admired her ability to cope with any situation. I recall the Summer months when the Football Season would be just beginning at UF, and Teresa’s and Rex’s enjoyment of the games, and the calls I would receive at home from Teresa asking me if I wanted to come in early (so she and Rex could attend a game,) and the skills I learned in those early years. Teresa had a compassionate heart, and a scientific mind geared to management of patient care. She led through example, and had a ready smile for everyone. She had a remarkable sense of humor, and had a special affinity for helping those grieving to see the loss of life as a preferable transition to daily pain and physical struggle, and would gently lead families to this kinder realization. I think of those families often, and the wonderful providers, like Teresa, that AGH had for the community we served, and I remember those years with happiness and smiles. Your family is my heart, and on my mind, and I am praying for you all and supporting you in this difficult life transition. I encourage you to place your life in Christ’s care, and rest in the assurance that Teresa is peacefully and joyfully resting in God’s perfect eternal care. Love and prayers, David Lewis (RN)

I'm so sorry to hear of Teresa's passing. I saw her in February when she and Rex helped with my mom's doctor appointment staying hours with her, a very caring person. My condolences to her family.

Story shared: Special Lady/Nurse

In 1994 and 1995, I had the priviledge of knowing Teresa for a time. She was the nurse who was assigned and assisted my mom in taking care of her husband, Mike. Then quite unexpectedly, she came back and helped my Mom and I as my Mom, Jane Micciche, experienced cancer. She was our primary Hospice Nurse. I was acquainted with her family in high school and my Mom was friends with Phyllis through work with the local school bus drivers.

While we knew Teresa through the worst of times, she always made us smile and feel better and she taught me a lot personally. We could not have gone through the loss of my Mom and her husband without her tremendous compassion, understanding, knowledge, fortitude - she was the very best. I have continued to sing her praises all these years and that of Hospice, because of her. I am very saddened to hear of her loss and especially at such a young age. These words are so little in comparison to how much she helped us. To everyone in her family, I can't share with you adequately what she meant to us. While we did not keep in touch out of professionalism, I have always held her very very dear.

Phyllis, I only knew you a little back in those days, but you were also a very wonderful person and I am truly sorry for your loss - no parent should ever have to endure this. Tim, we had high school classes together - I am sorry for your loss. To everyone else in Teresa's family, my sympathies go out to you. I know it was not an easy job she held, but she was so great at it, and those of us she cared for needed her so much. Thank you so much for sharing her and I hope that these words bring some tiny comfort.
