Jane Rankin Crouch, age 93 of Palatka passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 after an extended illness.
Jane was born on June 23, 1924 in Norfolk, VA to Ivan Leon Rankin and Cecyle Elizabeth Cannon Rankin and moved with her family to Palatka at the age of 9 months. Jane married Charles Bernard Crouch on June 26, 1943 at St Monica Catholic Church in Palatka, FL.
Jane enjoyed travelling and she and Charlie made a trip to Europe where she visited the Rhine Valley, a place her father Ivan, a WWI veteran had told her about when she was a young girl. She took many learning trips to different Elderhostel’s throughout the United States and Canada & loved to Cruise. She retired from the Putnam County School system in 1991 after 23 years as a bookkeeper.
Jane was a lifetime member of the Palatka Garden Club, where she served on the board. She was also a member & Officer of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, member of the Palatka Woman’s club, Historical Society, Art League and was a supporter of Rodeheaver Boys Ranch. Jane was also proud to have worked for the Draft Board during WWII and worked as a volunteer for the Supervisor of Elections Office for many years in Palatka.
She was a devoted member of Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka but also loved to attend many other local churches to participate in their many social activities and even appeared in their directory as an honorary member.
Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays were always a special time for her, a time to spend with all her family especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “GG”. This past Thanksgiving will always be remembered fondly as the day she was “Queen for the Day” being crowned by her great-great niece Aubrie Hawkins.
She was preceded in death by her father Ivan, mother Cecyle, husband Charles, and sisters Julia Stewart and Yvonne Frye (Max).
She is survived by her son, Ivan Nicholas Crouch (Kim), daughter, Charlene Crouch Shepard (Daniel), grandchildren, Christopher Thompson and Erica Shepard Rountree (Chris), great-grandchildren, Carter Thompson, Barret Thompson, Julia Cate Rountree and Elizabeth Jane Rountree and brother-in-law, Carl Stewart.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Rev. Amos Price & Rev. Michael Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the funeral home.
