Shirley Carlene Nettles, 82, of Palatka, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Putnam Community Medical Center. Born in Espanola in Flagler County, she resided in Palatka since 1955 moving there from Crescent City. Shirley worked as a telephone operator for years before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Palatka. Shirley enjoyed walking on the beach collecting shark teeth as well as fishing. She also enjoyed crafting and was involved in crafting shows for many years. Above all her hobbies, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl H. Robinson and Shirley Malphurs Robinson and a brother, Ronnie Robinson.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years, George M. Nettles, her daughter, Phyllis Crabtree (Mart), 2 sons, Stephen Nettles (Kristie) and Jason Nettles (Jenny), a sister, Glenna Staples, a brother, Terrance Robinson, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Services celebrating Shirley’s life will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Glenda Brayman officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering a memorial donation to St. James United Methodist Church (worship Committee), 400 Reid St., Palatka, FL 32177 for new paraments or hymnals.
